Power bars

 

INGREDIENTS

2 cups quick oats
1 cup natural peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
1 cup honey
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup ground flax
1 cup vanilla whey protein powder

 

DIRECTIONS

Mix all ingredients together and stir until blended. Spread mixture into a 13x10-inch pan and refrigerate until ready to serve.

 

Store in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 weeks or freeze for later use.

170 calories, 8 g fat, 2 mg cholesterol, 22 g carbohydrate, 3 g fiber, 5 g protein, 35 mg sodium

5. Understand why it’s important to eat healthy.
     *You are what you eat. Studies show that people who eat a diet balanced with lean proteins, plenty of fruits and vegetables and whole grains lessen their risk for disease, cancer and obesity.
      * Fueling your body with healthy foods will give you more energy throughout the day.
 
4. Choose healthy foods for optimal health
      * Here’s a tip: If you shop along the perimeter of the grocery store, you’re going to find the healthiest foods.
       * Before you pick up an item look at the packaging: Less packaging usually means more nutrition. If you don’t know how to pronounce what’s in your food, you probably don’t want to eat it.
 
3. Add fruits and veggies whenever you can
       *  I can’t stress this enough. The USDA recommends getting 5-9 fruits and veggies in a day. Visualize your plate. You want half of your plate to be fruits and veggies, quarter lean meat and a serving of whole grains and for bone health, don’t forger your dairy serving.
 
2. Make your own meals when you can
      * You are in control when you make your own meals.
      *  This is where I struggle, I’m busy, but who isn’t? But I’ll tell you what, when I do take the time to pack healthy foods to take to the gym I feel ten times better then when I eat a packaged granola bar. So for example: Instead of buying a processed granola bar with extra sodium and sugar, take time to combine whole ingredients to make your own tasty power bars.
 
1. Preparation leads to success.
       *  Having a plan (and following it) is the number one ingredient for healthy eating. It takes a little extra effort to be prepared with healthy and nutritious foods, but its well worth the effort. Have you had a past experience of eating clean? What did you notice?

Five Minute 100 Rep Challenge.
Before you get in the shower, do two sets of each exercise:
10 pushups against the wall
 10 squats
10 jumping jacks
and 10 stationary lunges with each leg forward

She recommends spacing your hands a foot apart on the handle for more lifting leverage and squatting down with your legs apart and back straight rather than bending at the waist. "Let your shoulders, torso, and thighs do most of the work," says Stein-Harris. Finally, turn your whole body to dump the snow instead of tossing it over your shoulder. "A sudden twisting motion," she says, "can cause you to pull a back muscle."
